The Barbers of C'ville formed at the University of Virginia in the Spring of 2020, not-so-accidently following a student-run production of The Music Man the previous semester. Enraptured by the sounds of barbershop harmony, the group set out to rehearse, but quickly found themselves in the midst of a global pandemic. Nevertheless, the Barbers of C'ville fought the odds and adapted, rehearsing safely to bring their sound to Grounds and the Charlottesville community at large.
The first public performance by the Barbers of C'ville actually happened by accident. While taking promotional pictures before rehearsal one day at a local barbershop, a man standing outside the pub next door asked if we were a barbershop quartet. We said yes, but he was not convinced by the hats, and demanded proof. He then brought everyone from the pub outside, and we put on our very own mini-concert, appropriately singing "My Wild Irish Rose" in the parking lot of Durty Nelly's Irish Pub.

The group operates as a society with independent quartets, such as The Society of Fellows, forming as interest and numbers dictate. We hope to perform gigs big and small once we can, and we would love any interested students to join our ranks and help spread harmony and joy through barbershop singing on Grounds.

LEAD

Miles is a 3rd-year from Falls Church, VA planning to major in Music and Cognitive Science with a minor in French. Miles has been a long-time fan of barbershop harmony and can also be seen singing with the University Singers and Chamber Singers on Grounds. In addition to singing, Miles loves getting involved in theater—directing, filming, editing, and performing in the drama department's fall production Love and Information and serving this spring as a publicity chair on the production staff for First Year Players, a student-run theater organization. Miles is a sucker for horror movies and extra toasty Cheez-Its.
TENOR

Anthony is a 4th-year music and environmental science double-major from Herndon, VA. When not harmonizing with the fellas he can be found directing the Broadway a cappella group Hoos in the Stairwell, playing bass in the Charlottesville Symphony, or probably climbing a tree somewhere. When Anthony walks around his house humming barbershop tenor parts, his family occasionally mistakes it as the dog whining. But that, of course, is the music's fault and not his own.
